'Missile man' Dr APJ Abdul Kalam passes away after cardiac arrest

Earlier during the day, Kalam had tweeted about
 his function at IIM Shillong
Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam
Shillong 27th Jul 2015(Sana Sayed): Former President APJ Abdul Kalam, the 'missile man' who came to be known as 'People's President' died on Monday after he collapsed during a lecture at the IIM in Shillong on Monday evening.

Kalam, who would have turned 84 in October, was confirmed dead more than two hours after he was wheeled into the ICU of Bethany hospital in a critical condition following the collapse at around 6.30 pm.

According to reports, Kalam suffered a massive cardiac arrest during the lecture at IIM, Shillong.
Considered the most popular President, Kalam became the 11th head of the state and occupied the post between 2002 and 2007 but lack of consensus denied a second term in office for a man who came from outside political spectrum.

Meghalaya Governor V Shanmughanathan, who rushed to the hospital on hearing the news of his admission, said Kalam died at 7.45 pm. Despite medical team best efforts, he could not be revived.
Chief Secretary PBO Warjiri told reporters outside the hospital that he had spoken to Union Home Secretary LC Goyal asking for necessary arrangements to be made for carrying Kalam's body from Guwahati to Delhi on Tuesday morning.

"The former President has been admitted to Bethany hospital in a critical condition," M Kharkrang, SP Khasi Hills said earlier.

Doctors from the army hospital and North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) rushed to Bethany hospital but their efforts proved to be of no avail.

A seven-day national mourning will be declared by the Centre, Union Home Secretary LC Goyal said. Both the Houses of Parliament are likely to make obituary references and adjourn as a mark of respect to his memory.

Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam rose from humble origins to become the President in the most unexpected manner during the NDA government under Atal Bihari Vajpayee after an all party consensus minus the left parties that saw him through in an election which he won handsomely.
An aeronautics engineer from Madras Institute of Technology, Kalam was considered the brain of missile programme in India got and as Chief Scientific Adviser to Vajpayee was also instrumental in the Pokhran nuclear test in 1998.

As President, Kalam utilised any opportunity that came to him to address students, especially school children, to dream big so that they became achievers in life. A bachelor, the former President was a veena player and was deeply interested in Carnatic music. He was vegetarian all his life.

Gold Prices Likely to Fall to Rs 23,000 Within a Month

A saleswoman holds a pair of gold bangles
while attending to customers at
a jewellery showroom in Mumbai
Mumbai 27th Jul 2015(Sana Sayed): Gold prices are expected to come down to a low of Rs 23,000 per 10 grams on continuing worries over interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve and a stronger US dollar, analysts say.

"The gold remains bearish and the prices are likely to decline to Rs 23,000-23,500 per 10 grams in a week to month time. This is mainly because the market is nervous of the outcome before July 29, when the US Federal Reserve will take a decision on rate hike. Whatever the decision, it will be negative for gold," Commtrendz research director Gnanasekar Thiagarajan told PTI here.

The MCX gold was at Rs 24,752 per 10 grams on Saturday, and $1,097.50 an ounce in the international market.

Mr Thiagarajan said that with a hike in rates by the US central bank looking imminent, the question now is by how much and when, which is keeping the market volatile till a final decision is taken.
In international markets, the prices are likely to weaken to $1,020 an ounce in a week or month. He added that the price may also crack below the $1,000 level.
Domestic prices of gold, however, will be cushioned if the rupee weakens against the American currency.

At present, there is demand from stockists, who are gearing up for the coming festivals, even as retail demand has declined, he said.

Echoing similar views, Angel Broking associate director-commodities and currencies Naveen Mathur said gold prices are likely to be in a range between Rs 23,500 and 24,000 by the end of December.
Similarly, the prices in the international market will be around 1,050 an ounce by the end of the year.
"This is mainly due to weak fundamentals like stronger US dollar, decline in investment demand, lack of physical demand. All this is in anticipation of Federal Reserve hiking the rates," he added.
He further said that as an asset class, gold has lost its status as a safe haven.

During the week to July 24, gold witnessed a steep fall in the prices to $1,085 from $1,140 in the international market, India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA) president Mohit Khamboj said.
In the domestic market, the prices have fallen from a high of Rs 34,000 per 10 grams to a low of Rs 24,700 - losing more than 27 per cent, in a span of nine months.

The prices, he said, may go down further to Rs 23,500 with China offloading the yellow metal from its reserves to withstand the current economic crisis.

"Demand in the domestic market had declined by 10-15 per cent and in the coming festive season, beginning with Raksha Bandhan in August, it may go down by 40 per cent," he added.

However, P N Gadgil Jewellers chairman and managing director Saurabh Gadgil said there is lot of demand for raw gold and some people are pre-ordering their orders for wedding jewellery.
"Even if the footfalls are not high, still there is a demand for raw gold and wedding jewellery as people are pre-ordering their orders due to decline in prices. Also jewellers are stocking up now for the India International Jewellery Show in August and the festival season. I feel the decline in gold price is favourable for jewellers at the moment," he said.

The prices will definitely go up in a couple of months and the industry is expecting a good Diwali this year.

Mali is perhaps one of the world's saddest elephants

Please urge authorities to take immediate
action to transfer Mali to a sanctuary.

Mumbai 26th Jul 2015(Sana Sayed): Mali was still a nursing baby when she was taken from her home in Sri Lanka, where she was just learning how to swim, roughhouse with her cousins, and find her own food. For more than 35 years, Mali has been confined to a barren, concrete enclosure at the Manila Zoo.

Wild elephants engage in activities for up to 20 hours every day, moving about and socializing with other elephants. The entire Manila Zoo measures only 0.055 square kilometers, and Mali's enclosure is one small piece of that. For her physical well-being, Mali needs grass to cushion her aching joints and room to move, not a cramped pen. For her emotional health, Mali needs the company of other elephants. She hasn't seen another elephant in more than 30 years.
Mali has been denied proper veterinary care. In the entire time she has been at the zoo, she has never received proper preventative foot care—something every reputable zoo in the world provides—or even basic blood work. Joint and foot problems are the leading cause of death in captive elephants, and elephant expert Dr. Henry Richardson, who flew to Manila to examine Mali at PETA Asia's expense, determined that Mali already suffers from potentially fatal cracked nails and foot pads, which are open to infection, and overgrown cuticles. Since PETA Asia alerted the zoo to Mali's problems, the zoo hasn't brought in a single elephant expert to help her.

But Mali has an opportunity for a second chance at life. A sanctuary would be able to provide Mali with vast spaces to roam, ponds to bathe in, fresh vegetation, foraging opportunities, and the company of many other elephants.

Her health and her sanity depend on it.

Paying for Cruel Tests on Animals in China

Please tell the California Coastal Commission to
vote AGAINST SeaWorld's Blue World Project.

Mumbai 25th  Jul 2015(Sana Sayed):Victoria's Secret has chosen profit over principles, and now what was once a cruelty-free company is paying for cruel and deadly tests on animals in China. See what type of tests Victoria's Secret is paying for, and tell the company that you won't be purchasing its products until it returns to being cruelty-free.

Many people look forward to the warm summer weather, but the rising temperatures this time of year can cause suffering and death for dogs who are left inside hot cars. In this compelling video, the Arizona Cardinals' Tyrann Mathieu shows just how hot it can get inside a car in the summer. Share it with everyone you know! You might be saving a life.

Have Trunk Will Travel (HTWT) has a long history of abusing elephants. The notorious exhibitor has been caught using electric prods and bullhooks on elephants, and one trainer even jabbed a bullhook into a baby elephant's mouth. Despite knowing this, Southwick's Zoo in Massachusetts has hired HTWT to give elephant rides at the zoo this summer. Please speak up for these abused elephants today by urging zoo officials to end this cruelty immediately.

SeaWorld has submitted an application to the California Coastal Commission to build new tanks, and we need your help to stop it. SeaWorld claims that its Blue World Project will help orcas, but we know that people like you won't be fooled by this desperate, drop-in-the-bucket move. The additional space and a "fast water current" are simply acknowledgments that orcas need more than just still water, but they'll do little to provide the animals with a natural life.

And clumsy “rescue” attempts cannot guarantee that all birds will be trapped and released before succumbing to stress or starvation as numerous others allegedly have. Your voice is needed!

9 Things No One Told You About Hunting

Millions of animals are killed by hunters each year.

Mumbai 15th Jul 2015(Sana Sayed): Hunters make up many excuses to justify their pastime. However, cruel, unnecessary killing—which is what hunting is—has no justification.

1. REAL sports involve competition between consenting parties and don’t end with the deliberate death of one unwilling participant.

2. Wildlife departments often cull majestic predators, such as wolves, bears, and coyotes, to prevent predation on elk, caribou, and deer so that hunters will have more animals to gun down.

3. Natural phenomena such as predators, starvation, and disease kill primarily the sickest and weakest individuals. Hunters, on the other hand, strive to kill the larger, stronger animals because they want to hang their heads on a wall, and this weakens the remaining population.

4. Most hunting occurs on private land, where laws that protect wildlife are often ignored or difficult to enforce.

5. When animals are killed, families are broken up, often leaving young animals to perish of starvation or attacks by other animals. For animals such as wolves, who mate for life and live in close-knit family units, hunting can devastate entire communities.

6. Hunters often accidentally injure and kill animals other than the ones who are being hunted, including horses, cows, dogs, and cats. Sometimes hunters even injure or kill themselves or other humans, such as hikers and other hunters.

7. Dogs used for hunting are often kept chained or penned and are denied routine veterinary care. Some dogs are lost during hunts, and others are turned loose at the end of hunting season to fend for themselves.

8. Hunted animals often don’t die painlessly or quickly. Many animals must be shot multiple times. A British study found that some wounded deer suffered for more than 15 minutes before dying.

9. When injured animals escape from hunters, they usually endure prolonged, painful deaths as a result of predation, shock, or exposure.

Stop the bloodshed by refusing to go hunting and by sharing this page and educating people about hunting.

Jackky Bhagnani offers the sweetest apology EVER

Jackky Bhagnani
Mumbai 12 Jul 2015(Sana Sayed): Guys! We all make mistakes, like they say, “To err is human”. So did Jackky Bhagnani last year when on October 10, 2014, he misspelt Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai’s name as Masala in his Tweet. Jackky Tweeted, “Such good news to hear about masala and the noble peace price. My speech in #Youngistaan was inspired by her.” With three spelling mistakes in his tweet (about someone fighting for the right to education!) Jackky’s efforts to appreciate Malala fell flat and grabbed eyeballs for the wrong reasons. Time passed and everyone forgot the story but this young actor did not! He recently shot a video with #fame as a tribute to Malala Yousafzai for her birthday on July 12.
Here’s why we think Jackky is a Rockstar for making this video:
1)      He’s got his priorities sorted: In a time when everyone is consumed by vanity, Jackky is one of those rare actors willing to admit his mistake and laugh at himself, as long as the larger picture gets noticed!
2)      Jackky chooses to go public to apologize for his faux pas: Let’s admit, social media can be unforgiving. Despite knowing all too well about trollers, Jackky chose to shoot a video to talk about his mistake. In the days of everything going Digital, video is the best possible way to say something. Go public and apologize honestly. Jackky, we loved it!
3)      Jackky accepts his mistake out loud: This is one of the toughest things to do in life – to admit your own mistake “OUT LOUD”. But this guy did it brilliantly in this video. And we can see his sorry expressions too. Jackky you rocked this time for sure!
4)      Jackky cares: In the video, he’s taking a sincere and clear stand for human rights. How often do you see a known personality throwing his weight behind another personality, despite possible backlash, and for no selfish gains?!
5)      Jackky reminds the world of Malala: Let’s be honest guys, not many of us remember people like Malala Yousafzai on her birthday until we spot a video talking about her! It is sad to admit that most youngsters are clueless about Malala Yousafzai and her contribution for human rights advocacy of education for women. Jackky, in the video, talks about Malala, her contribution and her achievements. We hope that after watching this video more people will recognize her. Those adorable kids in the video will for sure!
6)      No-film Promotion: Yes guys, Jackky is not looking to be in news, he has no films coming up right now. This isn’t a publicity gimmick. He did this video for a cause with #fame. Read that again – FOR A CAUSE! Go watch it now!
7)      That Beard: Seals the deal for us!
Jackky you did a great job this time. Makes us wish we had a professor as hot as you! Kudos to your effort. And yes, Happy Birthday Malala. Like Jackky said, “Thank you for the inspiration!”

CBI FILES A CHARGESHEET AGAINST TWO THEN DIRECTORS OF LATUR

CBI FILES A CHARGESHEET AGAINST TWO THEN DIRECTORS OF LATUR(MAHARASHTRA) BASED PRIVATE FIRM AND FIVE OTHERS FOR CAUSING AN ALLEGED LOSS OF RS.49.30 CRORES (APPROX) TO TWO BANKS

New Delhi, 10 Jul 2015(Sana Sayed): The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a chargesheet before the Principal District & Sessions Judge, Latur (Maharashtra) against then two Directors & their Latur (Maharashtra) based private firm; two then Guarantors of said firm; then Sub Registrar of District Latur (Maharashtra) and a private person in a case for causing an alleged loss of Rs.49.30 crores(approx) to Union Bank of India and Bank of Maharashtra.

CBI had registered a case on 25.03.2014 on a complaint received from Union Bank of India (who had filed it on behalf of Bank of Maharashtra as well) against a Latur (Maharashtra) based private firm and others alleging that the said firm represented by its Directors and other accused persons was party to a criminal conspiracy to cheat the Union Bank of India and Bank of Maharashtra to the tune of Rs.49.30 crores (approx). In pursuance of the said criminal conspiracy, the accused allegedly induced the bank to sanction the loan with a collateral which did not belong to them. The accused persons accomplished this with the help of forged documents showing a Guarantor as the owner. After obtaining the loan, they diverted the funds released for other purposes. It was further alleged that the accused persons also replaced the relevant pages in the documents available in the Sub Registrar’s office, showing the charge of the bank and substituted the pages with those showing a property with much lower value.

After thorough investigation, CBI has filed a chargesheet
